What you should know:
Spring Clean Up: County officials have announced dates for this year’s Spring Clean Up events. Residents of Kanawha County may drop off select items for free disposal at locations in Cabin Creek on April 12 and Sissonville on April 26, respectively. More info here.
Donations: Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) is conducting a community donation drive. Non-perishable items, as well as cold-weather essentials such as socks, jackets/coats, gloves, and blankets, can be dropped off at CAMC locations from Feb. 5 to Feb. 26. Donations will be disbursed through local food pantries across Kanawha and Putnam Counties. More info here.
Fishing: The 2025 Muskie Expo will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8 in Clendenin. The gathering includes exhibitors, musky tackle, door prizes, an auction and more. Concession proceeds will benefit Herbert Hoover High School’s Project Graduation program. More info, including entrance cost and location, is available here.
Little League: Signups for Kanawha Central Little League has begun. Registrations will continue at various locations in Belle, Cedar Grove and Smithers through February 22. Interested youth and their parents/guardians can find a complete list of signup dates and locations on Facebook.
TikTok: Is it time to ban TikTok? That’s the question that former U.S. Senator Joe Manchin, III and Digital Relativity founder Pat Strader will tackle during a free public panel discussion on Thursday, Feb. 6. The 4 p.m. chat is part of the University of Charleston’s “Two Views” public speaker series. It will be held at the UC Downtown Innovation Hub on Capitol Street in Charleston. More details here.
