What you should know:
Closing: The JCPenney store at the Charleston Town Center Mall is closing, company officials confirmed Monday. The outlet — the mall’s last remaining anchor store — opened in 1983. Representatives said the location’s last day of operation would be May 25.
Cards: The Nitro Public Library is collecting cards made by children to distribute to a local senior apartment complex for Valentine’s Day. Library representatives said children ages 12 and under who contribute five or more cards will receive a free book and be entered into a drawing for a gift basket. More here.
Restaurants: Charleston Restaurant Week kicked off Monday, and continues through Saturday, Feb. 1. Sixteen local eateries are participating in this year’s event. A full list of participants and prices is available here.
Dinner: Tickets are on sale now for the popular Heart and Soul Dip Dinner, an annual fundraiser for the East End Resource Center. Participants purchase $1 tickets which can then be exchanged for “dips”, or spoonful servings, of soul food items during the Saturday, Feb. 22 dinner in Charleston. More here.
Hockey: WVU Hockey will visit the South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena for a two-game series against Appalachian State at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8. More here.
Events: Charleston Urban Works has released the dates of two popular capital city beer festivals for 2025. The annual Foam at the Dome event will take place on Saturday, June 21, while OktoberWest will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27. More here.
