It’s June 10. May was Stroke Awareness Month. But thanks to the efforts of one Kanawha Valley doctor, West Virginians can be “stroke smart” all year long. Dr. Rena Sukhdeo Singh, a neurologist at Vandalia Health CAMC, worked with state health officials to launch Stroke Smart West Virginia, an initiative aimed at raising awareness of a disease that affects 4.8% of West Virginia residents and is the fifth-leading cause of death in the United States. A Kanawha Valley doctor is responsible for bringing a new statewide stroke awareness initiative to West Virginia aimed at improving public recognition of stroke symptoms and encouraging residents to seek emergency care without delay. The Stroke Smart West Virginia campaign launched last month after Dr. Rena Sukhdeo Singh, a neurologist at Vandalia Health CAMC, met with state health leaders.
